Periodontal abscess | Testing is not required. The responsible organisms (aerobes and anaerobes) are reliably sensitive to penicillin or metronidazole. |
Dento-alveolar infection | Testing is not required. The responsible pathogenic bacteria are reliably sensitive to penicillin or metronidazole. Antibiotics are indicated until definitive drainage is achieved. |
