The organisms commonly involved are Group B streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Chlamydia trachomatis.

Microscopy (Gram stain) and culture of ear swab, gastric lavage, urine, nasopharyngeal aspirate, CSF (as appropriate).

Blood culture.

Chlamydia antibodies.

FBC, blood film, differential WCC; CRP.

Pneumonia

Septicaemia

Meningitis

Urinary tract infection
