Diarrhoea

Faeces - ova, cysts and parasites; microscopy for Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites and cysts.

Mucosal scrapings are a suitable alternative specimen.

Specimen should be freshly collected and still warm if trophozoites are to be detected.

  • Colitis

Colorectal biopsy.

Liver abscess

Entamoeba histolytica antibodies.
