Clinical assessment with diagnostic imaging, as appropriate. FNAB, excision biopsy, if appropriate. See also Goitre.

Adenoma

Cyst including

  • Multinodular goitre

Carcinoma

  • Papillary
  • Follicular
  • Anaplastic
  • Medullary

Consider possibility of other endocrine neoplasia/hyperplasia; see MEN type 2A and 2B under Multiple endocrine neoplasia.

Calcitonin may be of value for monitoring course after surgical resection.
