Semen analysis. FBC; blood group; syphilis testing - serum or CSF; HIV antibodies (HIV-1 and HIV-2); hepatitis B virus testing (hepatitis BsAg); hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibodies; HTLV-I/II antibodies. Cytomegalovirus antibodies - if positive, virus culture is performed on each donation.
If CMV serology is initially negative, it is repeated at 6 months and if seroconversion occurs, viral culture is performed on sperm donations.
If the mother is a known carrier of a genetic disorder for which the carrier state can be identified by molecular genetics testing, this should be performed on the sperm donor.
