5 mL blood in EDTA for 'direct' tests of neutrophil-bound antibody and 10 mL in plain tube for 'indirect' tests of antibody in serum

Method

Direct and indirect immunofluoresence.

Application

Investigation of neutropenia, when immune-mediated (including drug-induced) neutropenia is suspected.

Interpretation

A positive result is seen in immune neutropenia and drug-induced neutropenia eg, secondary to penicillins, cephalosporins, vancomycin.
