Application

A supportive, but not diagnostic, test for pernicious anaemia.

Interpretation

Antibodies react with sub-units of the gastric parietal cell proton pump.

Positive in 80% of patients with pernicious anaemia and in 40-50% of patients with other organ specific autoimmune diseases.
