| Application | Used to support the diagnosis of infection with Yersinia spp when cultures have been negative. The test is of limited value because of false positives with infections caused by Brucella spp, Vibrio spp, E. coli and Salmonella spp and in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. |
| Interpretation | Antibodies appear soon after onset of infection and may persist for six months. A rise in titre between acute and convalescent sera increases the diagnostic significance of the test. A negative result does not exclude the diagnosis. |
