Method

Indirect IF with primate adrenal substrate.

Reference Interval

Qualitative test. Positive result is significant.

Application

To predict risk of adrenal failure in patients with polyglandular autoimmune syndrome type I.

Occasionally used in diagnosis of autoimmune adrenal failure.

Interpretation

Adrenal antibodies are present in 70% of patients with autoimmune Addison's disease and in <5% of those with Addison’s disease due to other causes.

May be present in patients with other autoimmune disease.
