| Application | Diagnosis of sugar intolerance:lactose, sucrose or glucose/galactose. Although the test is usually done with faecal pH measurement the latter does not provide any additional useful diagnostic information. |
| Interpretation | A positive result indicates reduced digestion or absorption of one or more sugars. False negatives occur eg, if the offending sugar has not been ingested recently. |
