| Application | Suspected abnormality of vitamin D, not affecting 25-hydroxycholecalciferol. The assay is rarely required clinically. |
| Interpretation | Normal levels of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol with increased 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol levels may be seen in patients with sarcoidosis and after excessive calcitriol intake. Low levels are seen in some forms of hereditary rickets. |
