Specimen

2 mL blood in lithium heparin tube collected 2 hours after a high protein meal. The specimen must be separated and frozen immediately.

Method

HPLC.

Reference Interval

450-750 µmol/L.

Application

Investigation of a patient with suspected hyperammonaemia.

Interpretation

Glutamine is increased in patients with genetic hyperammonaemia.
