5 mL blood in plain tube.
Investigation of recurrent (particularly nocturnal) fever, unexplained chronic oedema, chyluria, and chylous effusions in a patient from an endemic area.
A positive result indicates infection at some time, but does not distinguish between previous and current infection.
False positive results occur with infections due to other helminth species.
The presence of parasites in tissues is usually associated with high titres. A low titre or a negative result may be found in the presence of parasitaemia.
