Transferrin isoforms - IEF with IFE ...

Reference Interval

The transferrin isoform pattern in normal nasal fluid is similar to that of plasma.

Application

Demonstration of CSF in nasal fluid.

Interpretation

If the specimen contains CSF: transferrin - tau band (asialotransferrin) present. This indicates that the nasal fluid contains CSF, and that a dural tear must be present.
